Micro Names of Micro Blogs
Friday, May 1st, 2009Have you thought anytime about the social micro software name meanings? We have lots of social micro services and most of them use very short and artificial names. For example, Thingfo, Jaiku, Pownce. Hictu, Bebo sound strange to me. And the stranger number one is Tumblr. What the heck do they mean?
If all these names are created to look exceptional, these do look especially unique. But they create strange associations in my mind. Each of them distinguishes by the same sense which I could call – virtual presence. It means – the thing exists but you can’t touch it, you can’t understand it and it’s meaning, sense.
Maybe they are not well – understood as services and so we even couldn‘t also easily accept complexity of the names. Maybe these online services blow our minds out and the title of service you use isn’t as important as their quality. Maybe it’s hard time for software developers and they hardly find new names for new services.
I wonder what will fly next after Flutter…
