I want something better than Twitter!

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Is a desire of something better than Twitter is a stupid thing? Not at all. There is Flutter. Now I can just watch the video below. I hope next time I will be able to say a few words about it:

Truman Show on Twitter

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

When Jim Carrey has passed through the artificial sea and has gone out of reality show in the „Truman show” movie, I said – wow, incredible! Communications in Twitter (or let me call Twitter show) look very similar:

a) Open – you can see everyone’s tweets and everybody can see yours;

b) Real – like: everybody is interested to reflect his chosen part (reality) of himself. If not, why most of tweets talk about authority building? And one friend even suggested not adding party photos to a blog, tweet etc. Don’t you build your virtual image?

c) Teaching - if you don’t know something about Twitter, millions of educators will help to get Twitter tips. They will help you if you even don’t need to learn anything about it… Similar to people real relations except that in real world you can choose – to read or not to read. In Twitter show world you read them through by default.

I liked a Burg’s review  and here is one of his conclusions on this article:

truman showTwitter is a mix of SMS, instant messaging, blogging and mind mapping, all to create something truly unique.

I would like to add – all to create something UNIQUE and look like REAL.

But Twitter has one simple important option forgotten by lots of online businessmen: simple conversation and discussion among users. This let’s all the show become the reality and stops robotic communications.

Virtual communications can give only followers. Mass tweets can give you mass followers. Only real non customised conversation among users can create basic real world connections among people. Later these connections easily become closer to people real relations: business, interests or real respect.

Don’t forget – simply communicate with people!

NOTHING BUT STATUS UPDATE

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Twitter like websites are today’s top internet solutions. Nothing is more important than your status apdate.  What did I find while browsing recent social media news? A bunch of new websites created for exchange of brief, short, snippy information.

Here they are:

  1. Quub – simple status update for social network newbie.
  2. Microsoft Vine – a location-aware social networking application for Seattle residents.
  3. Mint – a little bit wider idea of status update – system to rule your budget/money – personal finance site.
  4. Glassdoor – share and exchange opinion about your salary, workplace, employer etc.
  5. And so on.

quub-logoThe questions which arise in this context are “do I have to leave Twitter?”, “must I join Quub?” or “has Mint a plugin to tweet my budget updates?”. Is anybody smart enough to answer any from these questions?

The last status update from me: “I became a robot in Twitter. Who can force robot to move to Quub?”

PHILOSOPHY OF MICROBLOGING

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

It is sunday today. And I have a right to express a few light philosophical thoughts.

Jonas already made a post about the world which gets micro.

002359_2a3ebeI want to add something personal on this theme. The fresh thing in social networking which inspires me is 12 seconds of video tweet offered by “Tweetdeck”. It seems that everything is devided into such small pieces, that sometimes is hard to believe what people can anounce in just 12 seconds. But when you watch one by one these video tweets, all of them create a whole or nearly whole cloud of hot information in your brains. After some time you see that you know particulary everything about the newest celebrity Susan Boyle (even if you never was interested in reality shows or pop music), you know that Shaquille O’Neal has one of the greatest audience of followers in Twitter (even if you never was interested in basketball), you know that today is a memorial day of Columbine (you just get many tweets about it, and you must read something to know what Columbine story is about) and so on.

Smaller pieces of information we exchange, bigger entire dose of information we got. Our heads get alike cabbages. Cabbeges can be eaten. Rabbits or goats will come and eat our cabbeges.

Safe surfing in social networks!

What Makes Your Social Success Strong ?

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Our earlier posts were dedicated to mostly prominent online social services: Twitter, Facebook and so on. But when it comes to online business, it’s hard to create right social media strategy because online market is overfilled with profiles and businesses. Though it’s clear that you must SHARE info, you don’t know where to share and what to share.

online-successHere are suggestions for a fresh online businessman:

- Make a list of favorite RSS feeds and read them every day; make notes and revise them later;

- Comment online blogs and get some worker-type person reputation;

- Don’t forget completely fill Linkedin and Facebook profiles. They show your social and job skills and create strong identity.

- Follow and test new social software and write useful review about what succeeded and what didn’t.

Have successfully online relations !

YOUTUBE REAL TIME FEATURES

Friday, April 24th, 2009

To say in just a few words: YouTube follows Twitter way. Google anounced a new feature called “YouTube RealTime”. It will let users see what their friends are watching, rating, commenting, etc. Nowadays just watching video on your computer’s screen means going back to non interactive TV world.

youtube_logoThe word “instant” is very important in social networking. Google lost a battle having to close “Google answers”. So, it is a clever step for serious improve of YouTube to prolong it’s life. Without instant share what are you uploading, editing, watching or encoding the future of this huge video data base would be quite misty.

Just one hint for Google: do not forget about 12 seconds of video tweet which offers “Tweetdeck”. Maybe it is time to make just good video tweet website? Will people be interested in 1 or 3 minutes videos in near future?

World Goes Micro

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Blogging, tweeting and other ways of personal service branding theoretically let any person in the world to become a widely known web evangelist, celebrity or a simply blogger. Finally they are respected in a big business world.

micro-worldAs Mark Penn wrote in Wall Street , Blogger is very important profession in US. And there are 452 000 of bloggers using blogging as their primary source of income.

Twitter has got Oprah’s syndrome: twit pics, twit jobs, twit gas, twit anything and anyone… Some discuss will this last for a long time ?

And here Mark explains the reason of this happening now:

The biggest trends today are micro: small, under-the-radar patterns of behavior which take on real power when propelled by modern communications and an increasingly independent-minded population. In the U.S., one percent of the nation, or three million people, can create new markets for a business, spark a social movement, or produce political change.

From web 1, web of information we finally moved to web 2 – web of relations. So it’s finally clear why we are here. And it’s clear why such service as FriendFeed will be important in future despite of it’s lack of functionality.

Even if we foretell the golden age of social media business let’s not forget about a concurrence. There are old big brands and companies which place in market you must respect and it’s going to be hard job to overcome them. But everything is possible with the bright idea and continuous work.

“Google Answers” & again… Twitter!

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Many SMM blog’s talk about it, so you maybe have already heard that Google shut down its “Google Answers”. Now you may see just plain on http://answers.google.com/answers/:

“We’re sorry, but Google Answers has been retired, and is no longer accepting new questions.
Search or browse the existing Google Answers index by using the search box above or the category links below.”

speed-meterThe question is simple: why did Google act in such a way? The answer is even more simple than question. Twitter overcame Google in this position. Google could not offer as quick answers as gave Twitter.

There is, for example, website organized to search for phrazes “does anyone know?” and “why does?” in Twitter. You may try: iknowtweet.com.

It seems that Twitter gets more and more positive evaluations every day. And it goes like an absolute winner in tough web contest. But the story of Twitter is quite short and we still can not be sure about it’s future. I believe, that Twitter has many chances to become a long living engine, but it must change enermously from nowadays version. We already have a few changes from the very first version: tweets of photos and 12 seconds of video tweets. On the other hand: won’t many options lead Twitter to hard and complicated working mashine?

Keyword Research Becomes Useless in Web 2.0

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Last days I’m getting lots of SEO 1 fashioned teaching tweets about keyword research. Yesterday I found this ( @awebbiz: Learn how to do keyword research for your articles before you write them. ~ http://tinyurl.com/d8252j ) and couldn’t stop thinking: when was the last time I thought about different keywords before blogging? Do we really must think about specific keywords working in overfilled global web market?

keyword-research1To answer this we must look at it closely. How does nowadays global web business market look like? It looks like a huge container of service profiles and texts. It’s hard to find the right person/service man and the right information in this mess. So you simply “follow”, “like”, “retweet” everyone except porn and so other low moral content. The way helps you get a wider audience and new clicks for your website as well. So this era of somewhere called “Oversharing era” gives us simply model of communication. The most important point here becomes communicating not sharing info.

We usually make some keyword research for every blog entry here in Lithuania because the state’s market is small and it is possible to rise competitive keywords up. There we must usually think in SEO 1 terms.

And finally we say – good bye keywords, hello friends  !
